About
Join us for an intensive 10 hour hackathon in computational neuroscience! Participants will compete in teams of one to three to produce self-contained research projects in just one day. Projects must fall under the broad remit of computational neuroscience. Teams will work alone in a social setting, with experts circulating to help them with any issues related to project definition, the research process, coding, and/or interpretation of findings. Prizes will be awarded to the best projects.

F.A.Q
-
Who can join?
The hackathon is for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Calgary. No experience is required.
-
What am I expected to produce?
Teams will be challenged to create a 3-5 minute video of their project and a Github repository. The video must contain: Motivation, hypothesis, approach, results, discussion/conclusions. After the hackathon, your videos may be hosted on this website.
-
Can I use my own data?
Yes! The datasets we are hosting are only suggestions, you are welcome to use any neuroimaging data.
-
Do I have to use data at all?
No! Simulations are also welcome. Anything that can be reasonably understood as computational neuroscience will be considered.
-
Can I work alone? How about in a group of four of more?
You can work alone if you desire, though we encourage participants to take advantage of the collaborative and social nature of the event. Teams can be a maximum size of three given the room size and tight time limit of the day.
-
Do I have to have a team to register?
No! Please indicate on your registration form if you have a team, or if you are looking to form one. We will connect paritcipants who are looking for teammates.
-
Can I build on an existing project?
No, projects developed in the hackathon are standalone projects to facilitate the challenge of the day and fair judging.
-
Is there a cap on number of attendees?
Yes. We have capacity for about 40 participants and will be allocating registrations on a first come first served basis. Register early to avoid disappointment!
-
What prizes are available?
First prize ($150), second prize ($75), third prize ($50), and best visualization ($75).
